LOCATION

Shhhh. Zipolite is a hidden gem, so you will need to take the road less traveled to find it, and we like it that way. May it remain undiscovered.
For most, if flying in, the easiest way to arrive is via the Puerto Escondido international airport (PXM), but you can also fly into Huatulco (HUX) or even Oaxaca (OAX). Zipolite is about a one hour+ drive/taxi from Puerto Escondido or Huatulco and a four hour shuttle from Oaxaca. Some like to fly into PXM and out of OAX to experience both. Most hotels are happy to help you with any of your travel arrangements.
A FEW OF OUR FAVORITE THINGS
If you only have a short stay in Zipolite, here are a few of our favorite things, popular with visitors and locals alike…

EVENTS
// January / February

Encuentro Nudista
En NUD / https://encuentronudista.org/
Zipoilte’s now famous nudism festival takes place in late January and early February and attracts thousands of domestic and international tourists. First hosted in 2016, the gathering has grown to become the most significant nudist event in Latin America.
// February

MANCHA
Every year in February Zipolite also hosts MANCHA — a multi-day arts celebration that transforms the beach into a “living gallery” (galería viva).

MEXICO CITY ART WEEK
While this is obviously NOT a local Zipolite event, it is a celebration of the arts (so we LOVE it) and makes a great excuse to visit Zipolite either before or after the event.
CDMX Art Week is more than the sum of it’s parts and it has many parts, but ZONAMACO and CDMXArtWeek are good places to start.
2027 // 3 – 7 DE FEBRERO
2028 // 9 – 13 DE FEBRERO
2029 // 7 – 11 DE FEBRERO

ELLA LOVE FEST
ELLA Love Festival “ELLA Festival is an international that puts the limelight on queer female and non-binary voices through arts, culture, music, talks, and interactive workshops.”
// November

JAZz FEST MAZUNTE
Festival Internacional de Jazz Hosted in the neighboring “Pueblo Magico” de Mazunte, this small but mighty Jazz Festival is a very popular annual attraction to the area.
// Year Round

CAMP
With a lovingly hand-crafted space as beautiful as their Mission, CAMP is authentic Zipolite and hosts popular retreats and other activities throughout the year so it’s always a good idea to check the CAMP calendar of events.
ART

An Artists Dream. Born out of 1970s hippie culture, Zipolite is a bohemian beach town with a thriving arts culture and features small studios, local artisan crafts, beers, and ongoing artist residencies.
Arts + Artists. You’ll find artists displaying their art on El Adoquín most nights so you won’t have to try too hard to explore Zipolite’s arts scene, much of the art will come to you… Zipolite at night is a wonderful explosion & exposition of both arts and artists.
Alive with Art. Take a walk and you’ll discover Zipolite is home to a beautiful collection of ever-evolving murals by local and international artists.

And, as noted above, every year in February Zipolite also hosts MANCHA — a multi-day arts celebration that transforms the beach into a “living gallery” (galería viva).

WILD WAVES & SURF

Wild Waves. Zipolite is famous for it’s crashing waves and is a popular surf destination in certain seasons.
The waves are both fun and powerful so you’ll want to exercise caution when jumping in. Keep an eye out for caution flags on the beach and be sure to thank Zipolite’s 100% volunteer lifeguard team for keeping an eye on us all.
If you are not a strong swimmer, you might prefer some of the beaches including, Mazunte, San Augustinillo, Playa Panteon or Estacahuite.

Learn to Surf. If you’d like to learn to surf, head to Surf Zipolite and ask for Águila.
